The client had bought land with olive trees and almond trees, almost at the entrance of the property, a small Saracen trullo (typical rural building in the territory of Ostuni) has been abandoned, with an adjacent structure, a lamia, which remained only part of the perimeter walls.

The intention was not only to recover the existing buildings, but also take advantage of the possibility of creating an extension so as to triple the existing surface (originally less than 40 square meters) to establish at least four bedrooms. Continue reading →

The Victoria 73 house had an open design, creating an environment where the young family could enjoy an outdoor lifestyle offered by the site. This outdoor area is protected from the prevailing winds, and enjoys views of the sea, and more immediate views of large boulders to the South. The clients were eager to utilise every possible area of the site, yet ensure that they maintained privacy in this dense part of Bantry Bay, where sites are fairly small and owners typically maximise their allowable building envelopes. Upgrade Modern House in Brisbane, Australia

Shaun Lockyer Architects have completed to upgrade modern house in Brisbane, Australia. Here is description from designer: “The Park House is a dramatic alteration and addition to what was originally a speculative ‘cookie cutter’ style house in a larger development (but in a fantastic park-side location in inner city Brisbane).

The house explores the reprogramming of two key areas, primarily associated with living and lifestyle. The first and foremost altered area is the kitchen / living / dining which has been redesigned to optimise the indoor / outdoor living experience.

The second (and perhaps more dramatic) area involved the addition of the ‘Park Room’ on top of the existing living areas which personifies the best of subtropical indoor / outdoor living. This addition afforded the opportunity to introduce a number of voids and volumetric devices that link the different levels and create a sense of drama. These devices also allowed for light to penetrate deep into the existing living spaces.

The new work involved a significant qualitative upgrade with bespoke timber joinery, marble accents and a beautifully landscaped perimeter to heighten the enjoyment and experience of the new spaces”. The project was completed in April 2012. Continue reading →
